ALL I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FOOTBALL I LEARNED IN WEEK ONE!

Now, that we have our own website and podcast, I am forced to pay attention to every detail of every game that is being played in the National Football League. I know there are thousands of fans counting on us to provide them with the best fantasy football information around. Well, you probably won't get that, but I did learn a few things in Week One:
1) I love Sundays! Waking up, turning on the radio to your favorite Fantasy Football talk show, talking about the Bears at church, having a Bears party in the front yard and listening to the game while five girls wait for the Bears to score so they get candy, checking the live scoring and putting a cap on the day with a little Sunday Night Football.
2) Mike Martz and Jay Cutler are gonna get along just fine as long as he keeps throwing for 372 yards. They may even invite Matt Forte to dinner with them now. But, remember, last year, Forte had two games where he rushed for over 100 yards, guess who?
3) There's a reason we don't get too hyped on rookies - 26 yards combined for Jahvid Best and CJ Spiller. Now watch Ryan Matthews go off tomorrow!
4) There are a lot of quarterbacks named Matt. If you've got the one with the last name Stafford or Kolb (ok, he's not Matt, but after his concussion he may think he is) you may want to watch the injury news this week. Welcome back Michael Vick!
5) I'm only gonna say it once - don't fall for Darren McFadden again. He's ditched you at the prom one too many times!
6) Palmer, Ochocinco (remember he helped the homeless kid - God's going to give him a great year) and even T.O. looked good. But, they were down huge! I think they're still a running team!
7) In the annual Mario Manningham starts out strong campaign, he gets 85 yards, but we all knew Hakeem Nicks would have 3 TDS and be on pace for 48!
8) Way to Go Wes Welker! That's an awesome story. In a not so awesome story, Randy Moss....
9) Could Frank Gore be the Matt Forte of last year?
10) If Brandon Jacobs was making angry comments last week, what do you think he's going to say after Ahmad Bradshaw had 93 yards and a touchdown? (By the way, in the other committees we care about, DeAngelo Williams had 16 carries to Jonathon Stewarts 5, and Peyton Hillis and Jerome Harrison had the same amount. I don't know why Cleveland hates Harrison!)
11) The two biggest non-shockers were Peyton Manning threw for a lot of yards and it was to a whole bunch of receivers, and Arian Foster going crazy after the TMR, from ESPN, and Rock On Football predicted it months ago.
12) No one else cared about this game, but I did. In the Cardinals vs Rams, Beanie Wells owners were very happy that Tim Hightower didn't go completely off, Steve Breaston owners (are there any out there?) were happy. And how about a shout out to our ISU alum Laurent Robinson for getting a TD and Billy Bajema catching 3-18...and Bradford had him wide open for the win!
13) In our "we are a Christian podcast, so we much mention Tim Tebow" segment, he had two carries for two yards! Awesome day!
14) For a guy who's supposed to be a fantasy expert, I wrongly predicted Jabar Gafney would have 100 yards, Donald Driver would be better than Greg Jennings, Derrick Anderson would be a Top 10 QB, and that Cadillac Williams would do better than the "Sharder" (although he needed OT to do it) while going 6-8 on the Thursday/Sunday games, but I did say that "Austin Collie would have the most yards out of any Indy receiver." Oh yeah, look at me, I'm a fantasy expert!

....And now, here's my complete breakdown of the Sunday Night game (it's the only one I really watched):
Can someone tell Gary Crouton, the Dallas O Coordinator, to stop running the wide receiver screen? I counted 131 plays for 0 yards on that one! Speaking of offense, it looks like the Redskins might actually have one this year. Yeah, they didn't score an offensive TD (those are overrated), but they actually looked like an NFL team. Donovan McNabb looks great and he seems to have a connection with Chris Cooley and Santana Moss! Even Clinton Portis looked good once or twice, but I think we can be sure of one thing - Uncle Mike is gonna give him the ball a lot, and against defenses of teams that don't start with D, he should be fine! Now, Dallas, you should've taken a knee at half-time. Oh well! It does look like Miles Austin was not a fluke. He sure does catch a lot of balls...and makes sure he brags about each and every one of them. On the other side, either Romo or Jason Garret (I know he's the Coordinator, but Crouton was an ex-Bear guy who ran wide receiver screens all the time), love Dez Bryant. They were almost looking at him too much! But, when that line gets healthy look for Austin and Bryant to get huge numbers.

Thanks for reading. Just found out, people all over the world have checked out this site....and we really do appreciate that!

  1. First, about the Dallas Washington game. The Redskins looked good, yes. Can't deny it, but how much of it was the Cowboys playcalling also? It looked like they were trying to protect Alex Barron and Montrae Holland big time in the first half. Holland played a good game I thought, but Barron, aye maron!!!! All you have to do is redirect Arakpo and let Romo do what Romo does and it is a victory for my Cowboys!!!
Back to the Cowboys play calling, Jason Garrett has a lot of Mike Martz in him. He loves to throw the ball a lot, and forget about the run. Barber, Choice, and Felix Jones had only 21 carries between the three of them (Barber and Jones 8 a piece, and 5 for Choice). You have to run the football, down two lineman or not, you have to do it. You are so right that we resembled the Gary Crouton Bears with all of the screens to Dez Bryant!!!

My thoughts on the rest of the league. Don't let the Bears numbers fool you. Yes they had almost 400 pass yards, but 4 sacks of Cutler, 4 turnovers. They are going to get Cutler killed if they do not protect him better. They struggled to beat the Lions. To me that speaks volumes. A team that has only won 2 games in the past 2 years, and it took a miracle for you to beat them. Bears fans, don't get too excited.

I totally agree with you on rookie hype. Expecting a rookie to come in and be a difference maker in weeks 1-6 is crazy. Just because they are a high pick and look good in the pre season is not a sign of success in the regular season. As they say, "The game speeds up from the college to the pro ranks.", and that is not going to happen for a rookie in the pre season.

I think New England is poised for a good year. The Jets are not going to go anywhere until they take Sanchez out of his Huggies, and let him show what he can do. Any body who is a fan of the Bills, don't watch any games at the bars. If you do, make sure you have a DD. You will need it!

That's all I have to say for now. Love the web site guys.
