SORRY BILL, YOU'RE A GENIUS, BUT WE'RE DOWN ON THE PATRIOTS!

OK, so I (TBone) called Randy Moss my "Bust of the Year." But Doc went after the Golden Boy. He said that Tom Brady would have a worse year than Carson Palmer. Let's look at this.
First of all, let's give some props to Randy Moss. He's been in the league 12 years and played 16 games in 10 of them. 8 of those years he's been in the Top 5 for Fantasy WR. Last year he had 1264 yards and was the #2 WR. He plays, he's good, and he's put of stats for a long time. But, now he's 33. I'm not sure of his mental state with the whole "I'm not going to be in New England next year" thing. And, after week 9 of last year, he did not have a 100 yard game. So, I say, BEWARE!
Now, with Tom Brady. Sure, he's good-looking! But, did you know he's only been a Top 5 QB twice in his career. Last year he was only the 8th ranked QB (pretty good for most folks, but not the good-looking one!). He did not have a 300 yard game in his last four, and now he may be without Wes for a while. Worse than Carson Palmer? Maybe?
What about Wes Welker? I've got a sneaky suspicion he does a lot better than people think. He's on the Active PUP list, so they can activate him opening day, and it looks like he's going to do everything at the start of camp. He's been a Top 20 WR the last three years and I think he's a steal as your third WR. Now, let's just say I'm wrong again. Then, you've got to look at Julian Edelman who had 147 yards total and 2 TDs in his last two games for the Patriots (w/out Welker). If you really want to go out on a limb draft Tory Holt or Brandon Tate....or better yet, Algae Crumpler (that just sounds like an old guy name, doesn't it? Or maybe something you'd find on a rock at the bottom of the sea?).
Ooooh, almost forgot Lawrence Maroney. So, he had 856 yards and nine touchdowns last year, and the other three guys had 1400 yards and nine touchdowns. There is your problem. He's never gonna get the ball enough to be consistent. And he's never gonna be consistent enough to get the ball. Bill Belichick is the Mike Shanahan of the AFC (it works out well that Mike is in the NFC now). The difference is you know who's going to get the ball - everyone! Just don't pick a Patriots Running Back, and if you do you can get them late.
Here's my stud: Stephen Gostkowski. In the last three years he's had 137, 148 and 125 points. Get him, but get him early. He won't be around in the last round!
What do you guys think? Thoughts on Brady, Moss or Welker? Love to hear 'em?

WHY SO NEGATIVE ON THE BENGALS?

I've got Carson Palmer as not being all that great. Doc has Cedric Benson not even in the Top 25. We both don't like Ochocinco! This is from a team that made the playoffs last year!
Carson Palmer - From 2005-2007 he was #1,4 and 9. In those years he had two 1,000 yard receivers. This year he could have the same in Ochocinco and Bryant; however, the running game worked well for the Bengals last year. And if it ain't broke (or if Benson doesn't break down), don't fix it. I just don't think he gets enough attempts to be the sleeper QB some people think he will be.
Cedric Benson - He does have a history of doing goofy stuff (See boat situation), and we'll see if he's suspended! He did not have a TD in the last five games and has never played all 16. Last year he was only the 16th ranked RB. Honestly, I hope he gets suspended so I can grab him late and he'll be rested.
Ochocinco - Hasn't been in the Top 10 for the last two years. He did have 1,000 yards last year, but also did about 1,000 hours in front of cameras this offseason. He'll still be good because God will bless what he did for the homeless boy, but for some reason I see Antonio Bryant getting closer to where he was two years ago and surpassing Ocho. (Isn't it crazy that everyone calls him "Ochocinco" now?)
As for the rest of the Bengals, Jermaine Grisham (TE) and Bernard Scott (especially if Benson doesn't play) could be sleepers. Scott had 238 yards last year in the two games he subbed in for Benson. I wouldn't grab either of them because you can probably get them on the wire; unless you see Benson get suspended and want a four-game rent-a-player. The Defense is startable, but Shayne Graham would be better used as a topping for roasted marshmallows and chocolate.
Thanks and Good Luck on the HOLE IN THE GOSPEL contest!

THE HOUSTON TEXANS - THEY COULD HAVE THREE FANTASY STUDS!

After we did the podcast, I realized this team has some awesome firepower. If Owen Daniels is back, they have the #1 WR, a Top 5 QB and a Top 5 TE! It always comes down to injuries. Will this be Matt Schaubs second year of playing all 16? Will Owen Daniels' ACL help him out! Will Andre Johnson be in the Top 2 again? I can answer "Yes" to one of those questions. Two years of 1500 yards will do that to you! There is no reason to believe anything will change for Andre (I just call him that!). He's basically had the same year, two years in a row. Not bad when it lands you as the #2 and #1 fantasy receiver. Now, about Schaub and Daniels. If they're injury free, you've got to say they're Top 5. Schaub let all the NFL in yards and attempts last year. And he had 16 of his TD's in the 7 games that Daniels was around. With a whole year, you could see his TD number increase from 29 last year and vault him up even higher. And Daniels' last three games before the injury - 295 yds, 3 TDs -lead you to believe he could definitely crack the Top 5 if his knee is all the way back!
The big question is....WHO'S GONNA BE THEIR....KICKER? No, just kidding! But we love Neil Rackers to win that battle and be fantasy relevant. But, you have to wonder what's going to happen with the RB situation (I mean, it's not like LeBronGate, but pretty interesting!) My gut tells me Arion Foster, but I like the underdog. Steve Slaton says his neck is 100% healed and thanks God for it! We are talking about the #6 fantasy back of two years ago, and Houston wants to improve the running game. And all reports say that the Texans love Ben Tate. So, you don't really know. It seems the experts are saying Slaton or Tate, but I'd recommend you at least drafting all three.
By the way, want a deep sleeper? Jacoby Jones! Andre has been taking him under his wing. Not sure how many yards there are to go around if Daniels is back, but he could snag some of them up!
What do you think? Love to hear your comments!

I LOVE RODDY WHITE....AND LET'S TALK FALCONS

I really do, and I'm not afraid to say it. If Roddy were here (and not at a club with Michael Vick) I'd say it to his face, "I love you!" My dream is to have him and another top receiver take me to the Fantasy Bowl. Today in church I was coming up with this dream scenario where I get one of the first three picks and grab a stud running back, a stud receiver and Roddy White! That would be nice.
Oh yeah, let me tell you why. For the last three years Roddy White has had over 1000 yards. His offensive coordinator says he is in the best shape of his life and The Burner only makes him better. I've got Roddy as the #3 receiver on the board - check the rankings! I also like The Burner! They say he's in good shape and it doesn't sound like their going to drastically reduce the number of carries he gets. So, put him on the list of running backs I'd love to have this year. He's elite once again.
Not so elite are Matty Ice and ToGo (don't think that's his real nickname, but I didn't want to type out the whole thing). Matty Ice is a better real quarterback than fantasy. He just doesn't put up big enough numbers for me. Last year he only had one game over 300 yards. And ToGo has done it his whole career (twelve straight Top 10 rankings as a TE). Last year he did have the lowest numbers of yards he's seen since 2002. He's 34! So, while I don't see a drastic reduction, I do think he falls out of the Top 10 or just barely gets in.
Their D can stop the run (13 straight games without a 100 yard rusher), but I don't think they're anything special, and whenever you play in a dome, you watch the kickers. So, check out the battle between Matt Bryant and Steven Hauschka! I like Matt Bryant just on a pesonal note. And I also like Roddy White, in case you didn't get that!

THE STEELERS - OFFSEASON, NOT SO GOOD!

Did you hear the one about the QB, Wide Receiver and OLineman? So, the QB gets in a little legal trouble and gets suspended. The Receiver gets in a little trouble and gets traded. And the OLineman has a season-ending injury. Sorry, there's no punch line!
If it wasn't for Mike Tomlin and his new three-year deal, I'd say this team was fading fast. But I believe! Coach Tomlin will find a way. And I think that way is by running the football, giving his D a break and maybe a new star emerging.
Now, Mike Tomlin is not what you'd call a Smash Mouth coach. He's shown that he's not afraid to throw the ball, but I think after last year's defensive debacle (losing all kinds of games in the last minutes), he's gonna look to give them a little more rest. He'll still throw it; especially after Ben gets back, but don't expect the 506 attempts he got last year. That means bad news for Byron - who will hand-off more, but I don't think it's gonna hurt Ben all that much. In 2007 Roethlisberger (no, I did not spell that on my own) was the #4 fantasy quarter back with almost 100 less attempts. So, he'll still get his. But, I think the guy that really goes nuts is "THE SHARTER".
That's right, we've given Rashard Mendenhall a new nickname - THE SHARTER! He's fast, powerful and stinky! But, I see him getting more carries, more yards and more touchdowns - even with the injury to Colon! 3rd years a charm! And I'd throw him in your Top 10 and hope to pick him up in the 2nd round.
Also, Santonio Holmes loss is Mike Wallace's gain - or is it? Last year, he was the king of the 3 for 83 games. Will he expand his game to have more receptions to go with those long balls? If so, watch out? And it's finally time to start believing in Hines Ward. I have a new rule - If a guy produces for 12 straight years, I'll start believing. I may even have to draft him this year just to make up for past mistakes. Heck, the guy had his second highest yards of his career in 2009. He's 33 and ain't slowing down (but check Doc's Hail Mary!).
And you want a surprise? How about Heath Miller? He has been in the Top 10 TE's 2 out of the last 3 years, and in 2008 he missed two games and was still ranked 15. I was shocked! But, he's due to have another solid year.
So, here's my advice. If Big Ben is out there late, have some grace and pick him up! If you want a solid #2 TE or WR, grab Ward or Miller. If you want a guy with bigger upside for a #3 WR, take a look at Wallace. Then, if you get Rashard Mendenhall, just thank God in heaven - especially if he falls to the second round! Or if you pair THE SHARTER with a Top WR - watch out fantasy championship!

THE TENNESSEE TITANS OR CHRIS JOHNSON, IT'S BOTH THE SAME!

Chris Johnson is the Tennessee Titans. Jeff Fischer would probably disagree, but from a fantasy perspective he steals all the yards and selfishly hogs all the touchdowns. Do you realize that last year Chris Johnson had 700 more total yards than any other Running Back? Even if you average out his two years (one with LenDale White) he's better than any other back. Hear that AP? Now, we all know that it's hard to predict touchdowns, but yards are more consistent. Would I pick CJ #1? No! I'm gonna stick with MJD because I said so. But, you go ahead!
Are there any Titans worth picking? Vince Young did have his highest QB rating ever last year, and he's starting off starting! He also had 281 yards rushing (including a 73 yard game). But, he doesn't throw for enough TD's or yards. That would lead you to believe Kenny Britt, Nate Washington and Justin Gage have no fantasy value. Oh contraer monfrair! I think Kenny Britt might come into starting WR status. Last year, as a Wookie, he had 701 yards and I think they're looking at him as a #1 WR. (See our Hail Marys for my bold prediction on Britt). But, Britt is probably the only one I'd go for - that's right, stay away from Bo Scaife too!
Of course, we love kickers. And Rob Bironas is a man! If you're like me and picking kickers before the last round, choose Rob.

THE PANTHERS AND FUN FANTASY FOOTBALL

Jonathon Stewart vs. DeAngelo Williams? Who would you take. Both had over 1200 total yards last year. Both had at least 7 touchdowns. Both were in the Top 15 of Running Backs. Both run behind an awesome Offensive Line. My guy says it's Stewart. He's healthier than in the past (although his achilles heal is his achilles heal). And I'm pretty sure he gets in the end zone more often. However, you can't go wrong with either guy....and if possible I wouldn't think you're crazy if you drafted both.
SLEEPER ALERT: Steve Smith. What? Here's what I'm thinking: No one has him as a top receiver. Where you can get him in the draft, he could be a steal. In four games with Matt Moore last year, he had an average of 94 yards and a touchdown - pretty good! And if Brandon LaFell ends up as their #2 receiver, remember you heard it here first. Probably put him in the Dante Rosario, John Kasay, Panthers D and Jimmy Clausen category though (don't draft 'em).
Finally, let's talk Matt Moore. He averaged 207 yards and 2 touchdowns when he finally got a chance. And that's without a whole offseason. I think he makes a better real quarterback than fantasy quarterback, but pray and see what God might tell you.
MAKING FANTASY FOOTBALL FUN
MY TOP FIVE THINGS TO DO
5) Do a Mock Draft and talk to people!
4) Listen to a ton of podcasts and make some comments. Get to know the people. You could also read articles on the internet (shockingly, there are a lot of them out there.)
3) Go extra dorky! Make your own draft sheets, start a podcast, check out our rankings and tell me I'm crazy!
2) Go to ESPN's Fantasy Football Convention.
1) Get a great bunch of guys, tailgate before the draft and enjoy your league!

SUPER BOWL BOUND GIANTS!

Yeah, I did say that - The Giants are going to the Super Bowl. They've only missed the playoffs once in the last 5 years (and last year they started out 5-0). They've hopefully corrected some of their defensive problems by signing Antrelle Rolle and Perry Fewel. And on offense they could have eight fantasy league starters. Maybe since this is a fantasy football thing, we should look at that.
Let's count them down: #8 = Kevin Boss. I don't see him as a fantasy starter, but Eli likes him in the Red Zone. And when I'm in the Red Zone I always look for my boss, so he could sneak in as a Top 10-12 Tight End. #7 = Mario Manningham. He was the #30 receiver last year, so if you're playing 2 WR's he would have been a fantasy starter. You know he's gonna have a few big games (See the 150 yarder from last year), but I don't know that there are enough balls for him to catch; because.....tell you later. #6 = Lawrence Tynes. We still don't know where he's from, but we know it's outside the U.S. and he will be kicking the ball inside the goal posts - very often. That's one thing the Giants do well - score! #5 = Brandon Jacobs. His carries have gone up each of the last three years (224 last year), and he did rush for over 1000 yards, but he only got in the end zone 6 times (compared to 16 the year before). This is just a gut feeling, but I think his carries start to decrease this year. #4 Hakeem Nicks. As a rookie he had 790 yards and 6 touchdowns. Those would seem to go up. Even Steve Smith says he's poised for a break-out year. So, who knows? #3 = Eli Manning. Do you realize how steady he has been? He's 5, 10, 13, 13, 10 the last 5 years as far as fantasy ranking. He had career highs in completion pct., passing yards, TDs and passer rating last year and threw for 4000 yards and 27 TDs. He might even be better. If you get him as your back-up, do cartwheels naked down the street. #2 = Ahmad Bradshaw. He was actually ranked ahead of Brandon Jacobs last year in fantasy value. And I've got a sneaky suspicion that they give him the ball more this year....and he'll be healthy. Tom Couglin wants to get back to the 2008 model of being a #1 rushing team and someone has to lead them. My gut says it's Bradshaw. #1 = Steve Smith. The guy was #11 overall last year and had 1220 yards. Doc and I both are worried about his huge increase in numbers from last year (More than doubled his yards and went from 1 to 7 in TDs), but I think he keeps it up and takes away some catches from Manningham. NOW IT'S YOUR TURN, GO TO OUR POLLS AND RANK YOUR GIANTS!
NEWS AND NOTES
1) Arizona G, Deuce Luti became a U.S. citizen - Congratulations!
2) Favre and Campbell are throwing to High School kids - that's nice!
3) Jackson and White are suspended for 3 and 4 games - and they've suspended themselves for 16!
4) Mike Bell's in camp, but the Eagles say LeSean McCoy will get most of the carries - I hope so, it seems like he's got some skills!
5) Tom Brady credits his throwing coach, Tom Martinez, for a huge part of his success. Now Martinez is working with JaMarcus Russel - see our poll!
6) Chris Johnson was working out in TN. No he wasn't. Yes he was. No he wasn't.
7) Rams want a back-up - SJax will not get as many carries this year. Bad for fantasy owners. Good for SJax!
8) Owen Daniels knee looks good - where do you rank Owen Daniels?
9) Michael Vick was with Roddy White - who knew they were friends?
10) Brandon Pettigrew was cleared medically to participate in workouts - I had high hopes, then I didn't, now I might...ooh, I'm so confused!

JOSH MCDANIELS - GENIUS OR WACK JOB?

That's the question, either Josh McDaniels will be the greatest coach of all time or he'll be kicked out of Denver in a straight jacket. I'm leaning toward the latter; because from a fantasy perspective, he's gone from Cutler, Marshall and Scheffler to Orton, Gaffney, and Graham.
Does anyone on this team excite you on draft day? Honestly, when I looked at the stats, Kyle Orton was a pleasant surprise. He threw for 3800 yards last year and had 21 Touchdowns - pretty good. Would I draft him? No, but he's a solid real quarterback. That's why he'll begin the season as the starter, but I'm thinking, after a rough opening schedule, Tebow is the QB after their Bye Week (ok, I just said that because we're contractually obligated to as a Christian podcast).
We won't even go into the receivers. Jabar Gaffney (yes, he is coming off his best year ever, but really?) is their #1 receiver right now. Probably their most exciting option is DeMaryius Thomas and he's never even caught a Kyle Orton lazer with fans in the stands. Daniel Graham, their tight end, probably won't be mentioned on many draft boards either.
So, that leaves their RB's! I've got to be honest, from a stats standpoint, Correl Buckhalter looks like the better back. Of course, that will not make a difference. Knowshon Moreno will get the most carries and he did have 1160 total yards last year with 9 TDs. But, the offensive line is banged up and Ryan Clady may be out at the start of the year. I still say he's a solid #2 back, but he doesn't do much to excite me. You might say I'm "No fan" of "No shon." (Came up with that myself).
Where does that leave you on draft day? Without a lot of Broncos. Maybe you take Matt Prater (19 of his last 20 in FGs). Of course, that's after you take TIM TEBOW.
NEWS AND NOTES
1) Cedric Benson is in trouble again - shocker! Keep an eye on Bernard Scott!
2) JaMarcus Russel is being looked at by the Jets. Who thought he'd get a job first? I don't think it's the Jets.
3) Will AP hold out? I don't think so, but why did the draft Gerhart and pick-up Moats?
4) Willie Colon is out for the season and Scott is banged up. Do you drop Mendenhall a few notches? I think so.
5) Sam Bradford said he will be signed by training camp. I love Sam Bradford!
