TIGHT ENDS, KICKERS AND DEFENSE - NOT REALLY, IT'S MOSTLY ABOUT OUR DRAFT!!!

Ok, it's a little different when you finally get to your draft! You can say you're going to do this or do that, but when it's all on the line, when your fantasy fate is going to be determined in the next four hours - it's a little different than sitting at a computer, listening to the ROCK ON FOOTBALL PODCAST and doing a Mock Draft. So, when it came my turn (oh yeah, I am going to bore you with every pick I made)at #3, I would have said MJD, no doubt, 24 hours before. But, then there was the report about his knee. Did it anyway - still not sure Ray Rice wouldn't have been better. Then, at 18, Miles Austin was still there - easy; however if Ryan Matthews hadn't been taken the pick before he would have been mine. At 23, Beanie Wells was there and running back was getting scarce. I didn't have a pick for a while and there were a lot of good WR left so I took him (then I saw him run against the Bears, ugh!). At the end of the fourth, Brandon Marshall is sitting there. I know I can't wait and get Bowe, but I can't pass up a Top 5 guy! It's #43 and Jamaal Charles is still around. I don't love him because of TJo, but as a third RB - awesome! I get him. Now, it's already #58 and my boy, Dwayne Bowe is there. I love him, but I've already got my starting WR, and still don't have a TE or QB. I figure I can wait for Cutler and Celek. Dwayne Bowe is mine! But Cutler is not - he gets picked, what? Then, I grab Celek and pray that Kolb is still there - he is! Now, with all my starters I start to think of back-ups to Kolb (he's my least sure starter). But, Michael Bush is there and I said I was going to draft him (Great idea, broken thumb!), so I wait and hope Brett Favre is still there in four more picks. I think he will be because everyone has QBs by now. He is! So, I like my QB rotation. In Round 11, I don't like Malcolm Floyd because I saw him play the night before, but it's between him and Jabar Gafney. In the end, I figure San Diego has the better passing O....but I see my favorite Defense there. Good bye, San Fran, I take Mike Singletary's D. Luckilly, both those WR are still there so I take Floyd. Finally, it's kicker time. The one I really want is Buehler from Dallas, but Doc takes him. All along we've said we love Neil Rackers. Even though he's not officially on the team I gamble and go for it! Then, we're obligated to take another D and Kicker so I draft Dan Conroy from Michigan St. (son of my friend) and I think the Texans - already dropped!
I go home, think my team will not even make the playoffs, and thank God for the best day of the year!
Oh yeah, if you want our breakdown on kickers, defense and tight ends - listen to the podcast!
Of course, we'd love to hear about your draft or what you think about mine. So, click on COMMENTS below! And come back next week as we get ready for Opening Day! Can you believe it?

BRETT FARVE IS BACK! - THE WIDE RECEIVERS!

I just had to put it! But, that's the last we'll mention of him.
So, are you at the point where you've had all these guys you've liked for the last month, and now, as draft day approaches you're starting to doubt? It's so much different when Draft Day is right around the corner and it's time to really pick that team. Jay Cutler as a starting QB looked great...until I saw him get killed against the Raiders. Ryan Matthews sounded great as a bust...until he started ripping through NFL defenses. Kevin Smith was my sleeper...until Jahvid Best got every carry and pass for a quarter and a half. I know we can't put too much into the preseason, but I don't know if I should stay with my original thoughts or is it time to revamp one more time? Really, can I still draft Lance Moore even as my last WR?
Well, today we talked Receivers. Last year was the first one that I broke from the RB, RB, RB theory of drafting...and it worked. I had the most points in our Fantasy League. And it makes sense to me. There are a lot of running backs I like late that I think will provide me with plenty of fantasy points, but there are only about 10 WR that I'd like to start on my team. So, I'm getting two Receivers in my first four picks - it would be my first three if I didn't like Dwayne Bowe so much. But, after that I may only have one or two backups. I'm going to go heavy on upside RBs. Saying that, here's my questions:
1) Do I really have Roddy White and Greg Jennings as my #3 and #4 WR? I DO! And I believe it. I want both those guys!
2) Could Dwayne Bowe really be a Top 10 WR this year? Call me crazy and a lover of large men, but I think Charlie Weiss makes a difference in Kansas City. In his rookie year, Dwayne Bowe showed he had the talent, and now you would think he'd be in a system that would work to his advantage.
3) Will Vincent Jackson play 12 games? I still think he will. I can't remember a player who held out. And if he plays, you could have a steal!
4) I'm going to pick one of these five guys - Lance Moore, Johnny Knox, Mike Wallace, Jabar Gafney, or Malcolm Floyd. I just don't know which one.
5) Does anyone like DeSean Jackson this year? What did he do?
6) What in the world is going to happen with Larry Fitzgerald? I don't trust Matt Leinart, Derek Anderson, or...ok, I love John Skelton!
7) Why did I pick Randy Moss to be my Bust of the Year? Oh yeah, he's 33, had a horrible last five games of the season, and he's Randy Moss.
8) Why do I keep looking at Steve Smith's (CAR) name and think, "I have to get that guy!"?
9) With _______ _________ back, is this Bernard Berrian's year? Don't think so - he's never been Top 20!
10) Why do I feel more pressure on Fantasy Football Draft Day than when I'm in a class of 25 kids who have their trust in me to mold and shape them?

We love your comments...or YOUR HELP!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

THE RUNNING BACKS!

Let's not kid ourselves - Running Backs are still king in Fantasy Football. If you don't get a couple good ones, you're dead! (Not literally dead - remember it's only fantasy football) Doc would even go as far to say you should draft a Running Back with each of your first three picks. I would disagree; because, I think there is value in the later rounds of your draft. But, I still say, you have to do your research and make sure you are walking out of your draft with at least three guys you like with a RB behind them.

But, more of that later. GAMES HAVE STARTED! In a not too exciting or well-rehearsed segment, we look at the fantasy relevance of each preseason game. Yeah, it probably doesn't matter, but there are some interesting things that happened, and we are nothing if not bearers of irrelevant information. And wait until you hear about the interesting things I read at www.fftoday.com in an article written by Dave Stringer. For example, did you know Pierre Garcon caught 51% of his targets last year and people not named Pierre Garcon who played for the Colts caught 72%?

OK, I know that's cool, but not cooler than what our buddy Andy McCann did in Honduras. Now, here's a fantasy football player who has his priorities in place. To find out more about what he did, go to: www.eatforadollar.blogspot.com....or just LISTEN TO THE PODCAST!

Back to Running Backs! You know what drives me crazy? All the arguments over who is #1 - Chris Johnson or Adrian Pederson? Who cares? They're both awesome! They're both gonna be huge parts of your fantasy team. If you get the first or second pick, you're taking them. I just wish there was a lot more talk about say - Clinton Portis vs. Ronnie Brown or Shon Green vs. Ryan Matthews. That's where fantasy championships are won! Saying that, I'd love for you to check out my rankings (Just click on TBONE'S RB RANKINGS above). I've got a couple questions.
1) Are Ryan Grant and Joseph Addai going to score enough to make them Top 10 backs? I love the fact that they both have high-powered offenses and Grant is the guy. But is that too high?
2) If you had to take one out of these four guys who would it be? Beanie Wells, Shon Greene, Cedric Benson or Ryan Matthews? Benson and Matthews will get the share of carries and Matthews looked great. But Wells looks like he's gonna get a lot more action this year; however, Hightower is a pass-catching machine. And Shon Greene should get most of the outrageous number of carries in New York, but he only had 550 yards last year in the regular season.
3) Is Knowshon done for the year? I tend to think "Yes!"
4) How much do you love Arian Foster and Michael Bush? C'mon you know you love them!
5) Clinton Portis - next in the line of great Shanahan backs or old guy? I've got a feeling....he's got a little left in the tank!
6) Can you please tell me that Matt Forte is going to have a good year? Please!
7) Is this finally the year Ahmad Bradshaw gets more carries than Brandon Jacobs? I waited all last year for it to happen - never did!
8) Carnell Williams - will he ever get the Cadillac back? If I have him as my #3 RB am I excited or worried to death?
9) You know one of those Top 8 is going to be a bust this year. If I had to guess, I'd say it's....heck, I don't know who it is. Do you?
10) Kevin Smith is better than Jahvid Best, right?

THE QUARTERBACKS!

Howard David is on the radio, I'm wearing my Bears jersey for no apparent reason, and we're driving six kids an hour and a half to play on bouncy castles (it's our annual pilgrimage to Bears Training Camp!). That can only mean one thing - football is here!
So, let's start by helping out a brother (he's not actually our brother, but one of our new favorite fans). He wants to know of any NFL players that are born again Christians. So, if you know of any, leave them in the comment section below or email them to us, and let's get Todd a Championship quality team of Christian guys!

Hey, what about us? We need your help too! We're looking for your Auction Draft strategies. We'd prefer that you've actually seen them work, but we'll take random, "I've never been in an Auction League, but I know this would work" stuff.

Now, can we talk quarterbacks! I'll never get a great one. In our league, we get four points for a touchdown and QB's don't score all that great. So, I wait till the later rounds and get a sleeper (my spiritual gift is picking QBs in the later rounds). So, Rodgers, Manning, Brees - they're gone. Would I love to get Romo this year? You bet ya, but he'll probably be gone too. Do you know who I'd take...well, you'll have to wait.
Here's what I would do if I were you though. Identify one QB or a committee of QBs that you think you can get late in the draft. Then, get two running backs and two receivers with your first four picks. Don't care what order, just make sure you get good ones. Then, start to look at the draft. If you can grab a Tight End before your QB will be gone, take him. If not, go get that QB you targeted. Because (I know you're not supposed to start a sentence with because, sorry Mrs. Neisus) I think you can find a QB later that will be serviceable, but you don't want to get stuck without 2 of the top WRs and two of the top RBs.
For me, I'm getting Jay Cutler later, or a combination of Kolb and Campbell. Or Cassel. Or Henne. Or Moore. My major points will come from my RB and WR position and hopefully I acurately predict which of these QBs will produce higher than their ADP (Average Draft Position).
I do have a great track record with QBs, so if you want to check out my rankings, click on TBONES QUARTERBACK RANKINGS above. And I'd love to hear your feedback. We don't get enough critical emails, so let us have it. Tell me why Jay Cutler will not be a #4 quarterback or how you'd rather have Favre than Kolb. It's a community here not a dictatorship!

But whatever you do - have fun with fantasy football, it only comes once a year!

Party on the Deck

I woke up in what you might call a non-loving kind of mood, and I hate when I do that. Suprisingly, the kids were in not-so-loving moods all day also. Maybe there is a correlation. I feel bad that I can effect my kids that way. On the way home from the Chuck E Cheese marathon, we went to Speedway and it turned things around. I just decided that it was time for a switch. Now I have had these thoughts before, that it was time to start working hard again and getting things done that needed to be done. I have listened to others, followed the example of people I know and it has really got me down. The problem is, my whole life, if there has been an excuse to be made for not doing something, I usually wouldn't fall prey to that. These days it happens pretty frequently. The big test is tomorrow. How will I wake up? I realize that it is a big key to loving myself and that loving others and you will follow. Can I get the discipline? Lord, help me be the person you want me to be!

THE MARATHON!

We had ten teams left to do and wanted to finish before Pre-Season games began - hence THE MARATHON! 10 teams - 2 hours - and three cans of Coke! Oh, I know, you'd love to read complete breakdowns of every team, but I'll just give you my Studs, Busts and Sleepers!
ARIZONA CARDINALS
STUD: Beanie Wells. They've got to run the ball more this year, they signed Faneca! And Wells had the most yards of any rookie. OK, I should have put Fitzgerald here!
BUST: Matt Leinart. You got me. I'm not a believer! In his only starting stretch he averaged 200 yards and 1 TD a game. 14 career TDs and 20 Ints. Not exactly eye popping numbers.
SLEEPER: Early Doucet. He had 145 yards and 2 TDs in the playoffs last year. Someone is going to have to catch Anquan's balls!
DALLAS COWBOYS
STUD: Tony Romo. He was the #6 ranked QB last year and now he has more weapons. I even like him more than Brady.
BUST: Dez Bryant. I don't like Wookie WR's, even ones who don't carry shoulder pads. He's getting drafted way too high.
SLEEPER: David Buehler. Kick off specialist turned FG kicker. You know I love kickers and this guy had 29 touchbacks last year.
GREEN BAY PACKERS
STUD: Aaron Rodgers. Going out on a limb here. But can you imagine if he didn't have large men falling all over him last year? Doc asked, "5000 yards?" And I had to think about it.
BUST: Donald Driver. He won't have a horrible year, but he is 34. Although he's had 1000 yards in 7 out of the last eight years, I think the streak comes to an end.
SLEEPER: Not sure he'd be a sleeper on anyone's board because everyone loves this guy, but Jermichael Finley is a beast. I see him doubling his TD production and being a Top 10 TE.
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
STUD: Brent Celek. 2 games with Kolb (Shouldn't we just spell it Cobb?) 8 catches for 104 yards both games. That's over 1600 yards this year. I just hope he's not a one-year wonder.
BUST: DeSean Jackson. Maybe it's because he's so skinny. Or maybe I don't think he'll catch all those 60 yard passes this year. But I just don't see him in the Top 15.
SLEEPER: Kevin Kolb. Wouldn't mind having him as my starting QB; however he's only started two games. Two games! Sure they were awesome, but two games? But worth a shot!
MINNESOTA VIKINGS
STUD: Adrian Peterson. OK, so he's good, but if he gets the ball on third-down more often it could be his first-ever #1 RB year.
BUST: Sidney Rice. That hip injury scares me. And, call it Bears pride, but I'm overall down on the Vikings this year.
SLEEPER: Bernard Berian. He was battling a hammy all last year and never quite got into the grove. If Favre comes back, he's still gonna rack up the yards.
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
STUD: Drew Brees. He's always good - always in the Top 5 since he came to New Orleans. 34 touchdowns the last two years. Now, go out and buy his book (check out the quote on the top of this page)
BUST: Robert Meachem. No way he has nine touchdowns again. If he does I'll Munchum on some dirt. Lance Moore is back and ready to take over his position, so....
SLEEPER: Lance Moore. Today on the show it just hit me. This guy could be their number one receiver! Right now he is (everyone else is PUP). And two years ago he was the 13th ranked WR.
SAN DIEGO CHARGERS
STUD: Antonio Gates. He's been ranked in the Top 4 the last six years, and had at least 8 TDs each of those years. Now he may even be a bigger target.
BUST: Ryan Matthews. I don't think he'll be horrible or catch any major diseases, but I'm not sure you can pin all your fantasy hopes on a guy who has never run in the NFL.
SLEEPER: Malcolm Floyd. Even if Jackson comes back, Malcolm has three games to get his mojo on and that might just lead the 776 yard receiver to bust out!
BALTIMORE RAVENS
STUD: Ray Rice. I love Ray Rice. They're still going to get him the ball often. Last year he averaged 127.6 yards per game - #2 in the NFL. Still good!
BUST: Joe Flacco. I think he'll be better than last year, but not in the Top 10 category that some people have him in. Year after year Baltimore passes more and more often, but I still think it's Ray Rice's show.
SLEEPER: Derick Mason. Tough to say a 36 year-old could be a sleeper, but people don't realize how consistent he's been. The last three years he's been ranked at or near the Top 20 each year. Everyone's talking about Boldin, they may just forget about him.
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
STUD: Peyton Manning. Ten years, over 4000 yards! That's awesome! He's only missed one snap due to injury in thirteen years. You pretty much know what you're gonna get with Manning.
BUST: Pierre Garcon. Gut feeling that Austin Collie comes out of there with the #2 job. Not sure why - maybe I'm just scared by the Haitans.
SLEEPER: Joseph Addai. Why doesn't anyone like Joseph Addai? He was #9 last year, he gets a ton of carries, they throw him the ball and he scores touchdowns. What's not to like?
NEW YORK JETS
STUD: Defense. Yeah, didn't like their offense very much. That is one solid defensive unit though.
BUST: Shonn Greene. Again, not a terrible year, but he didn't catch a pass last year and only ran for 540 yards. He only had one 100 yard game before the playoffs. And people are drafting him to be their #1 back. Not sure he is that good, and....
SLEEPER: LaDanian Tomlinson. I know, people said it last year too. Doc drafted him in the first round. But he did finish as the 19th ranked running back and had 12 TDs. The Jets offensive line is awesome. So, who knows?
Alright, that's it. Again, if you listened to the marathon, THANK YOU. Heck, if you listen to any of our stuff, read our stuff, click on our stuff, THANK YOU! We'd love to hear your thoughts, answer your questions, watch your kids (just kidding)!
