BEARS / PACKERS WEEK - LOVIE SMITH!

Simply let your "Yes" be "Yes," and your "No," "No;" anything beyond this comes from the evil one.  - Matthew 5:37

On the eve of Bears / Packers, I think it's time for me to take a stand once and for all about my thoughts on Lovie Smith!  I've wavered back and forth and never really put my foot in the sand.  Well, today that stops!  So, here it is.....
I LOVE LOVIE!
That's right!  I really admire what he has done as a coach.  I love the fact that we have no idea what he does with the players.  He doesn't put it on Twitter or give any inside information to reporters.  His players love him because he deals with them in a respectful way, and they respond by playing hard.  You can see general two-way respect there.  And really, that's half the battle as a head coach.
Does he always come up with the greatest game plans or make the right calls during the games? NO!  But, either does anyone else!  Even the incredible Bill Bellicheck has looked very unimmortal in his last two playoff games.
So, for me I'll take the guy who does everything he can to earn the respect of those 53 guys in the locker room...and that's Lovie Smith.
Sure, it would be awesome if he was also as commical as Rex Ryan or as motivating as Mike Tomlin, but if you asked me who I'd rather have as coach for my Chicago Bears, I can't say for sure that I'd take anyone else.
Would I extend him?  NO!  I always think that's silly (By the way, why would you guarantee Ozzie another year after all his goofiness?).  Let that play out.  But, am I glad if he's still here in 2020 - Yes!
Here's the deal.  With Lovie Smith, you know what you're going to get.  He's not going to do anything to embarrass his players or make them feel like he doesn't have their back.  He's not going to do the fiery thing or comedy routine, I think for fear of what it might do to the locker room.  And with Lovie, his Yes is Yes and his No is No.  What you see is what you get.
So, I'll say it again, I LOVE LOVIE......but that could change after Sunday.
